Prior to starting any patient handling activity it is essential to refer to the patient handling risk assessment, ensure the procedure is explained to the patient, the right number of staff are available, the correct equipment is used and, where possible, sufficient space. Clear communication throughout the entire procedure is paramount to ensure the sucessfull outcome of the handling task.
