NeuroNeuroAcute NeurologyDescriptionAbout the Course:The Acute Neurology Masterclass aims to provide an overview of the management of common and emergency neurological problems presenting to hospital. The acute neurology service at St. George’s Hospital is one of the first dedicated services set up in the country. Attendants of the course will be taught through interactive case-based lectures, each vignette offering practical solutions to acute neurological problems. Topics covered include acute headaches, stroke and stroke mimics, seizures, dizzy spells, funny turns, functional neurological disorders, MS and neuromuscular emergencies.
Neurosurgery High Speed Drill CourseDescriptionAbout the course: This one day interactive course aims to build understanding and provide hands-on experience of High Speed Drills. The candidates will learn the basic skills and techniques for high-speed drilling. The course will cover: - Identify, set-up and disassemble High Speed Drills. - Differentiate between attachment and cutting accessories and their respective applications - Short presentations preceding the hands-on training will support the practical work. - Demonstrations of ICP and EVDs insertion. This is a popular course and due to the practical element, numbers are limited to a maximum number of 20 candidates. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Delegates will be issued with a certificate of attendance and CPD will be sought from the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS).
Recent advances in young onset dementiaDescriptionAbout the course: The course will provide an update on current diagnostic standards, best practice and new developments in clinical practice relating to the young onset dementias. A case-presentation session at the end of the meeting will give delegates an opportunity to have difficult cases or management dilemmas discussed by an expert panel. Delegates will see clinical and research facilities, talk with our specialist doctors and nurses, and learn about opportunities for research collaboration. The overarching aim of the course is to bring delegates fully up to date in the emerging and increasingly important clinical field of young onset dementia.
The comorbidities of epilepsyDescriptionWhy join the course? Epilepsy is one of the most common, chronic neurological condition in the UK. The course will offer a practical grounding in the most common comorbidities associated with epilepsy. This is an area of growing clinical interest, and relevant to the care of patients with epilepsy.
Traumatic Brain InjuryDescriptionTraumatic brain injury (TBI) is a very important aspect of medical education and is often not taught specifically in either undergraduate or postgraduate courses. St George’s has one of the few TBI services in the country, and the TBI team have developed this one-day teaching course to focus on the clinical management of this patient group. A particular focus will be the inter-disciplinary team management and the entire MDT will be presenting during this teaching day.
